    Hi all,

I used my spanky new Colonna Capper/Corker for the first time last night for both still and carbed ciders. The corks have a big divot in them and the caps have a dent from the rivet in the capping bell. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? The instructions that came with the unit aren't extremely helpful.

    Thanks for your help!

It's normal for my colonna capper to put those divots in the caps. If you are concerned that they won't carbonate up right or they are leaking, place a prophylactic over the top of a couple bottles. It will show if gas is escaping from your capped bottles which are carbonating. I also use the colonna to cork belgian bottles. It looks a little funny until the wire hoods are placed on them.

    Thanks!

I thought I might be pressing too hard; especially with the corks.

    Nope...They all get it.
If they start to poke back up...you might consider opening those bottles....it's a sign of over carbonation.

    Will do.
Thanks! I love the fact that it is so versatile. I can always cover the cork divot with some wax to make it look pretty for gift giving.

With some practice...you'll get your post centered in the cork, and it'll look pretty good anyway.

Do y'all recommend the corker? I'm about to get into wine and Belgians. Somewhat concerned about the divot...
