cleaner

    Can you over use cleaner. I use step one no rinse. Couple of my beers taste close. Can over cleaning cause that?

    Cleaning and sanitizing are seperate things. When you clean something, Make sure you rinse it off completely. then rinse again.

    Sanitizer like star-san should be used (its easy since you can leave it on the stuff and use it after it sits for about 5 minutes.

    But, if there is cleaner left on the equipment, it is sure to leave some trace in the taste I would imagine.

    I did that the 1st time or two,since my LHBS re-packaged it as no rinse. Knowing better now,rinse the cleaner & leave the starsan on the surfaces. So I got lucky the first time or two with no off flavors,but I tend to think that was because of the amount in teaspoons of cleaner his label said to use. Now I buy the PBW by the pound in it's own jar. All needed instructions for strengths needed to clean various things is on the label.
