Hello everyone. I needed a bit of clarification on a closet fermentor. I looked at all the DYI builds and there were some awesome builds. I never really looked at a chest freezer style fermentor. So just to clarify, I would just need to get a chest freezer and some kind of control unit to over ride the temp? What am I missing here? Seems pretty simple. May be hard getting the carboys in and out, but that is ok.

What size should I search for?

Does someone have a link for the controller to override the temp?

    Thank you in advance
    for helping this rookie

Yep, you need a temp controller that is plugged into the outlet, and the freezer plugs into your controller. Set temp on controller and your ready to rock and roll, or pimp it out like this.

I picked up a 7 cu Ft chest freezer off of craigslist and picked up a Johnson Controls A419 temp controller from Amazon.com.

I taped the temp probe to the fermentation bucket and it works like a champ.

It is that simple. Go to a hardware store where the freezers are sold with a carboy and take a look in side of different ones. Then find one that will for two carboys and buy that. Then get a rancor temp controller with the female power end and go inn yoitibe for instructions. Install the temp controller and set to the temps you want. When using it to ferment beer sandwich the probe between the carboy and a towels and tape that down to get better temp readings.
