Cheap Temperature Regulator

Question... Where can you find an inexpensive but nice temperature regulator. Any better places than northern brewer? Let me Know

posted too soon... the temperature regulator will be used on a chest freezer.

 

I use a Love Controller, but another inexpensive option, which requires no wiring is the one from ChiCompany.net

I would go with a Love controller myself but even if not digital would be better than analog.

A single relay Love controller and a cheap Home Depot run can get you a great controller you can use anywhere.

 

Can you be more specific....I am new to controllers but would like something like this to control a keggorator and maybe my fermentation chamber later on down the road..It looks like love controllers are expensive, what were you thinking? Maybe I was just looking at the wrong ones.

I have the one from CHi Company on my keezer...works great no problems, love it.
But if you are goint ot use it for fermentaion control I would just bite the bullet and get a digital, either a Ranco or Johnson, much tighter temp control.

 

I use the TS-13010. Cole-Plamer for $65, it comes with the temperature probe, some do not.

The TSS2-2100 is nice as well for dual stage temperature control. Control a heat pad/brew belt etc, and also control the cooling freezer/refrigerator.

Auber Instruments also looks interesting.

The eBay Aquarium Temperature Controller is also inexpensive, but only does Celsius.

A lot of options out there.

There is always the Ranco and Johnson controllers.

I love my ebay controller....you do need to wire it up yourself though...

 

A single stage Love controller is like 52 bucks... 60 with a sensor. From there wire it directly to your fridge/freezer or, my preferred method, build a controller box so you can use it wherever you want.

Of course with only a single stage you won't need as many outlets.

As for cheaper controllers... not sure the accuracy of them but many people have great success with them. I just wouldn't go analog if you are going to be setting up a fermentation chamber.

 

Why do you say to not use analog? My LHBS recommends them over the Ranco digital, mainly because he says his digitals have all died and his analog is still going strong.

 

Digital is more accurate and you have more options with it. Doesn't matter either way for a keezer/kegerator but for a fermentation chamber I like that level of control.

 

Digital is prone to dying from a power surge. Put it inline with a surge protection device. Way better IMO than analog for our purposes, unless you can't afford to buy one. I have a Love 2100 for fermentation and a Johnson 419 for keezer. Both work very well. And a BCS for brewing.

 

I like the Auber set up...
