Bottled my 3rd batch. For the 3rd straight time (all different beef styles and ingredients) there is this background sweet taste of corn. I don't think I tastes like band aids or anything like that. It's funky and it's GD annoying. The only constants between the 3 brews is priming with corn sugar and using iodophor sanitizer. Any thoughts? It's driving me crazy and totally ruined an awesome beer.

How strong/hard was your boil, and was it an all extract batch, or did you have some grain in it?

Any chance you kept the lid on during boiling or cooling?

Some good questions above, but also, how long are you boiling for (at a FULL boil), and how are you cooling? And just out of curiosity, what base malts are you using?

The boils are always at least 60 minutes and 2 of the 3 were partial mash brews, the most recent one including wheat.

Also, I cool by ice bath (usually only takes 20 min) and I've never lidded the pot during boil but do during cooling. The hydrometer samples always taste fine then it all goes to he'll in the bottle...

The reason they ask is because the chemical DMS can lead to a canned corn taste. This usually comes from using pilsner malt, which requires a hard boil for recommended 90 minutes without the lid on to drive off the chemical, and a quick cooling.

The really odd thing is indeed that they taste odd in the bottle. Usually the DMS issue is apparent much earlier on. What are you doing to sanitize your bottles? How long are you waiting from brew-day before bottling? I assume you know fermentation is done as you have mentioned the hydrometer.

Try a different batch of bottles.

Before I went to kegging I had a run of bottles that I deemed were "cursed." I posted about it on here and short of using napalm and radiation the general consensus was that there was a ton of things you could do, but none of them guaranteed you that they would work.

Grab a new batch of bottles and see if the flavor follows it. That will narrow it down.

The bottles have never been used for homebrew before and were cleaned and sanitized before bottling day. Fermentation was definitely complete before bottling.
