This isn't a question, as I know this has been discussed to no end... The bottom half of my rubber grommet dropped into a 5.5 gal batch of 9% ABV Imperial IPA (OG: 1.091) after about a week of fermenting. With a buttload of alcohol and two very vigorous and very well established strains of yeast in place, I am not worried about infection, but I guess I have finally experienced this "right of passage." Guess I'll just keep an eye out for it when it racks onto the second dry hop.

Anyone else experienced this? Definitely reminds you that "to err is human." Kind of just chuckled at myself when it happened, and replaced it with a new one.

    p.s. This beer smells AMAZING!

One of my first beers I pushed the rubber stopper for my airlock into my glass thin neck carboy. I was appropriately freaked out (n00b) and did a search to find many threads like this. I stopped freaking out, the beer tasted good and I was even able to recover the stopper with a bent coat hanger.

We all learned a valuable lesson that day. Roll credits.

First time i used my stainless fermenter i pushed the bung through the hole and dipped it into my wort. Since I figured I had sanitized it I just grabbed a different bung and let it do it a thing. Turned out great in the end.
