My neighbor was getting ready to start working on his house today. Dig and pour footings......

    #$^*:#^(~

He decided to plow a road in the snow for the trucks to enter. Using a pickup truck with a snow plow, he bull dozed a path.......

    #@*&@!$%%*?~

He plowed over two of my hops!!!! One Cascade and One Nugget.

He's a new neighbor, I don't think he did it on purpose....

....Frankly, he doesn't probably know he did it though.

The mistake is partly mine they were planted right on the edge of the property line.

    #[email protected]*:#^(~....... MFSOBGDIT

This doesn't even describe how PO'd I am right now!!!!

    Ouch. :(

Wait until he starts landscaping. Then conviently arrange for some of his plants to "disappear".

Or if he has a yard gnome, steal it and photograph it doing heinous things to a sheep.

I share your anguish. My neighbors ripped out all of their "weeds" along the fence, some of which were hops native to this valley for 100 years. Thankfully they're growing back on my side, what a hardy plant.

wait until he settled in. take over a couple of HBs and casually drop in the comment about not enough hops this year...

...or put his house up for sale in the local paper and his telephone number in the local personal column...

Mark my words I will do that!

I've talked to him, he seems like a nice guy. His wife has beeeaotch written all over her.

When they were looking to buy the lot, I told them about the building set backline. Its a narrow lot so the build set back is 150' from the curb. She proceed to tell me if it doesn't have to be. Especially, if they don't enforce the convenents. She proceeded to ask if the covenent was registered with county. I said it doesn't matter its on the plot dwg. She went on and on about how she works at the county, bla, bla bla want wont wa, wa....

I'm like thinkin'... I don't flippen care. - This is the set back... Its the only lot out of 21 with a 150' all the rest are 60' because none are that narrow. This lot is pie shaped on a cul de sac. ~2.12 acres.

Literally, earlier tonight I thought I was going to have a stroke. I haven't been that pissed in a long time.

Glad to help. "Don't get angry, get even", this is true in some cases, not all (I hear ya preachers!) but sometimes, "an eye for an eye", is good. Advisable to sit back and think for a while instead of going with first ideas (normally illegal and remember you have to live beside these people every day).

If you want more suggestions just ask!

P.S. I like the taking over of a 6pack of HB the best. ...then plan B.

Oh man, I feel for ya. I've been fantasizing about growing my own hops someday, and that would be a heartbreaker. Glad to hear you didn't lose everything, at least.

Are you suggesting he serve haggis to the offending neighbor? I know bulldozing a man's hops plants is bad, but it's not bad enough to warrent that, is it?

My nickname is haggis! My wife doesn't mind it. ...also doesn't mind a stiff scotch down her neck from time to time ;)

and haggis is good. Do you know what is in it? ...Less crap than that hamburger, mince, pie, sausage, that you have just eaten!!! :D

I love haggis, and besides, any haggis sold in the US doesn't have any lungs or anything in it (since it's illegal). But as long as you can get past the mental barrier, it really does taste good.:rockin:

Let's be honest with ourselves here. Haggis is not very good.

And this is coming from a guy who eats cow brains, tongue, and raw steak on a semi-regular basis.

Don't get mad - get even. Let them start building, if they build without the setback - report them, they will make them take down what they started.

BTW - nice guy or not, you better explain what a property line is, building a road on the line is a bad idea, and you letting them get closer and closer and then over is worse.

Put up a towering, brightly colored hop trellis right on the property line. Hang a sign from it that says, "No bulldozers."

...or just take him a six of homebrew and see what happens. Ignore his wife.

I'd be really, REALLY ripped right now. Did you ever confront him about the first incident? Was it him driving the bulldozer, or does he have idiot contractors working for him (who might have insurance to cover the damage?).

No I haven't chatted with the man yet....

I gradually started to accept that I would have to take it down this year after the first incident. (It was partially my fault for having it on his side of the easement.) I had the chance to mellow out after the whole thing. We had a cold snap.

I could have had the chat on St Patty's Day. I was more amused at just watching him try to dig out his dump truck out of the muck. It was stuck up to the axles in red clay.

After this I need to really chat with SOB. There's no excuses now. There wasn't any snow on the ground this time.

Just seeing the flipp'n post busted off re-instilled all of my previous anger Until today wasn't a total loss.

If he was a stand-up guy, he would have come over, knocked on your door, explained that he screwed up and offered to make amends. The fact that he didn't (and you can't miss a broken 4x4 pole) speaks volumes to this guy's character.

I was out this week on business.... My wife tells me he came by and appologized profusely. He offered to buy a new post and install it for me. She said don't bother.

So he's not a bad guy after all.

:mug: Thanks for your sympathy :mug:

I'd go have a talk and just ask him the try and avoid your hops. Most guys will be especially careful if they know it's beer related. :)

I'm going to go retrieve the two that remain in place. The other two where removed with the snow plow.

I need to do that soon so they aren't disturbed by any other dozer traffic.
