Has anyone used Brewers Best Cherry extract on a wheat beer with much success?

I purchased a bottle of cherry extract to use on a 5 gallon batch of American wheat but I'm worried after reading posts complaining of a cough syrup flavor. I was told when i purchased at my LHBS to add some and taste before bottling but I don't want to ruin a batch. Has anyone used this with success and should i add less than a full bottle to reduce the change of cough syrup style American wheat?

oh yeah i'm planning on using honey for carbonation. Do you think this will mellow out the cherry cough syrup? I'm hoping for a residual honey flavor after bottle conditioning is finished but I realize it could be almost nonexistent. Its for the fiance so I'm hoping this will turn out.

Buy real cherries or puree, extracts are rarely very good in my view.

I used it in an American Ale and I wish I had used real cherries instead. The extract just did not give a 'real' flavor in my opinion. I am going to chalk it up to a learning lesson but I will not be using it again.

I have had good luck with raspberry extract and apricot. They produce the smell much more than the flavor IMHO. Cherry and chocolate Im not as much a fan of. That said ive used cherry puree and didnt feel it gave as much aroma and it gets pricey and affects gravites etc. its give and take. The extracts are much simpler to use. My best experinces tend to be a combination of both really.

    Thanks for the advice.

If the extract gives aroma and not overpowering flavor, I would be happy with that. This is for the fiance since I'm not a huge fan of wheat beers. They give me heart burn right away. Though Boulevard wheat is pretty good.

I would use puree but am a bit afraid of bottle bombs when priming with the honey. I also don't know amount of puree needed but i bet google could help me with that. Adding anything that could ferment during bottling makes me worry but I'll definitely research a bit more before bottling on Sunday.

I do a cherry wheat and rack my base beer onto 6# frozen cherries and some lactose. It comes out pretty darn tasty. Speaking of which, gotta do that this weekend.
