Blowout tube questions

I didn't realize I had to put my blowout tube in sanitizer or anything for that matter. Did I ruin my beer or might it still be ok?

 

Ummmm...a few more specifics would be helpful, but it should be OK as long as you address the "problem" in a timely manner. If it's still blowing off, just add some water to the collection vessel, you won't be using it for long, and once krausen stops foaming out, replace with a proper airlock and you're good to go. As long as it's still blowing off, chances are nil anything's gonna get in there, whether it's blowing off into a dry jar or a jar of sanitizer/vodka/water....relax, etc

 

I let it go two days and when I was changing it to the air lock my wife asked if I had put the sanitizer in the blowout bowl and I dint know I needed to. Apparently I didn't read the instructions very well.

 

Your probably fine. I'm assuming the tube was curving down into the bowl right? The main concern is wild yeast/bacteria floating down into a fermentation. They can't really climb up. That being said when I use a blowoff I always put the end in a container of StarSan for that extra sense of security.

 

If you put it into vodka you'll be celebrating instead of cursing when you "forget" to remove it for cold crashing.
