I recently got myself some new beer glasses: Tulip, Goblet, Pilsner, Weiss, Snifter...and I must say they truly help you to enjoy your beer to the fullest. I had been to certain bars that serve beer in the proper glass and never realized how much of an effect they really had until now. My IIPA tastes so much better when drinking it from the tulip glass vs. a traditional Pint glass.
I knew the shape had an effect (why else serve it that way), but until you sample one of your own beers side by side in different glasses I don't think you can grasp how the shape has an effect.

I will still continue amassing my collection of Pint glasses from every brewery I visit, but I will now be drinking brews from the proper glass.

Anyway, I just wanted to pass this newfound knowledge along to anyone else that doesn't have the properly shaped glass for certain styles. I feel the cost of the glasses was well justified.

Yeah, I have to agree that many high gravity brews are much nicer in a goblet or snifter...the aroma is so much more concentrated.

I went to a beer / glass pairing at the Boulevard Brewery here in Kansas City not too long ago. The glass company was Spiegelau. $35 dollars for the event and we received the Spiegelau Beer Connoisseur Set. It's amazing what a nice glass set can do for a beer. We were given four beers for each type of glass and a typical pint glass. We poured half a beer in the paired glass and half in the pint glass. The different characteristics obtained by the Spielelau glasses was much different then the pint glass such as nose, color, and taste. But the thing that I found the most interesting is how much longer the beer stayed at the intended serving temperature. Anyway, Cheers!
