    going to start growing barley for beer. anyone know if the spring or winter variety is better for brewing?

    Barley cultivars used for malting and brewing are typically spring types (Fischbeck, 2003). Good Luck!:mug:

    Marris Otter is a winter variety and happens to be my favorite base malt. But most are spring varieties.

    I just bought a 50# bag of Breiss 2-row malt. Can I plant some of this to grow my own?

    Never mind. I realized later that these grains are roasted before being sold for brewing! :)
