Ya sorry man... It works well. I'd be happy as hell with mine if it weren't for the a hole owner. Just don't expect customer service when you need it.

I ordered a cereal killer. Cheap. Hope it is effective.

I just got one, and this thread was worrying me, as it's also 1.25" rollers, and only a 1 yr. warranty. So it too could wear faster than the better mills. But then I realized the following differences:

    Hardened rollers
    Ball bearings vs. bushings
$40 less with free shipping, and
I crush WAY less per year than Yooper and others in this thread

So hopefully it won't wear out for a long time.

What I always say to those that hype their warranties is that warranties do not pay for the time dealing with them. I'd rather have a product that just works for the desired use and timeframe.

One last thought - Those that grind a lot - the takeaway is look at bigger mills mentioned here.

If someone has what I would consider a killer homebrew setup; one that costs several thousand dollars, i think they have no grounds to complain about a 150 dollar grain mill. It is such an essential part of the process that the best on the market should be purchased. Guessing it is probably $300. My opinion rests on the assumption that more than 10 lbs of grain will be milled weekly.

For me, my setup was put together from random Home Depot, Walmart, Internet and other items i scrounged together. Without doing solid math i guess ALL my home brew stuff costs a grand and a half. I mill less than 30 lbs a month. And would be happy if my cereal killer lasted 3 years with this level of use.

Anyhow. That's the way i look at it. And I am very happy to learn about the differences listed in the thread above. I had no idea. The barley crusher i think would have been ok for me. Its in the mill room at my local homebrew store.

For those that have returned their mills...

Is this still the current address information:

    Randall L. Justice
    430 Capac Road
    Allenton, MI 48002

I need to send mine in. One of the set screws that holds the adjustment knobs tight sheered off.

    Hope it goes well.

They communicate via email but not quickly. I must say they did respond to a problem I had and sent me a part at no cost. I have had mine about 3 years.

I have fixed the problem! I bought a 10-24 tap bit and re-tapped the hole. Luckily I was able to get the screw out. Had it been sheared off level, I definitely would have had to mess with a return. Whew!

Still though, if anybody has updated contact and/or address info for these guys, post if up. You never know.

I had the same problem with the screw shearing off. Thought I did something wrong. He sent me a new side of the body and set screws.

Aww damn . I have the same problem as koopa, yooper,
hammy71 and others. If I slowly drizzle the grain in there, it works. If I put any meaningful amount of grain in, the slave roller doesn't play ball. I guess I need to ship it in and make plans for a better mill. I did get probably 1000-2000lb of grain through this thing in a a few years, and have loved it until this problem.

I also did the disassemble, clean up, rotate 180 , yada yada. I still don't exactly understand the root cause - and I would like to, because I would like to build my own mill some day. What is it about drizzling the grain in that lets it work versus having the weight of a few pounds in the hopper? Is it that I am just getting lucky with small amounts because they fall into the gap ?

I'm sure the rollers are worn.

Makes sense, I'm just wondering about the physics now. When I have a fat pile of grain on top, it spins a bit and works, probably just the grains that are in the gap already. Then when it stops and the slave is idle, is the master roller just spinning stuff and jumping it around, and the slave roller is just too dull to catch it ? I spun the slave roller around, so maybe the master roller is too dull.

When I pour the grain in slowly, maybe it's just much more likely that it is in the low part of the gap, so it works better - in fact it works perfectly, I got through 12 lbs doing this a few weeks ago. If I put in more than a couple oz at a time, no go. Gotta drizzle.

Is there a good thread on "What is the equivalent of a blichmann level mill for homebrewers?" . Building my own sounds kinda fun too.

I have a MM-2, which works great. But when I try to crush hard grains like wheat, it does the same thing. I have to pour slowly and not let any accumulate in the hopper. I've only crushed about 100 lbs. of grain so far, so it can't be worn. Just the nature of the beast, I suppose.

You'll get it back... When he's ready to send it. His priority is selling new ones not fixing his broken ones.

Mine took forever too, and it came back so absolutely disgusting and full of metal shards. The metal was black... But it works. I'll sell it and upgrade to a monster mill before it craps out again.

Bring back an old thread, but anyone have any idea wht the current wait time is for a reply to an email?

Mine did the typical slave roller not working, but I discovered that one of the screws that hold the adjustment cam is stripped....

I feel your pain - literally.

I just went through the same process at http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/barl...issues-489449/.

Send it in with a note. It will take 3-4 weeks before you get it back. You'll get no follow-up and no repair information. You'll just get a box with your barley crusher inside. I don't know what was done to mine, but it works now.

    Here's the address:

    B C Products Enterprises Inc
    430 Capac Rd
    Berlin Mi
    48002

    Good luck!

Got a reply back from the guys at BC, basically said to send it in, but at least it was an honest reply about the issues I described.

Will send it in this week, and while I wait, I will decide on either the C&S or the new Millars B3

dropped it in the mail today, $6 to ship, hope it gets back soon.....
Should be there Sat, I put it in 2 flat rate envelopes, then put those in a flat rate padded envelope, that cost about 6.70$ to ship or something like that.

Also, I sent an email that I had shipped it and got a reply back in a few hours that they would get it turned around as fast as they could....

Hate to revive an old thread but I have a barley crusher for about 1.5 years and it spins but wont grab the grain. I have turned the rollers over and tried about everything but i am pretty sure the knurls are shot. Any way not looking to trouble shoot the mill but rather i have sent three emails to barley crusher, which is the only contact available for them on thier website, over the last three months. No response. Wish i would have read all the info on them. Waranty is garbage if they dont honor it or reapond to anyone. Anyone have a phone number for them?

Theres a few threads on this very subject... I believe Yoopers been waiting for like 2 years to get her mill back...

Ironically if you buy the cheaper cereal killer or one of the other non branded identical chinese mills, They have hardened steel rollers that dont have this issue.

Ha- no I got it back after a couple of weeks, with new rollers and stuff. I never heard a thing from the company- just got it back without a note or anything.

It worked well again for about a month, then I was back to playing with it because it wouldn't "grab" the grain.

I still use it, but it's not my favorite that's for sure. I spend some time messing around with it every brew day. I know I could just buy another mill, but I usually can get it to work by futzing with it and I'm too cheap to buy another mill.
