Ball Lock vs Pin Lock Kegs - Which is better and why?

 

Ball locks are more readily available and it's easier to get parts for them, but they're more expensive. That's really the only difference. You can buy threaded connectors that will allow you to use both on the same draft line, which is what I do. I have both, they both function the same, and I've stocked up on replacement parts for both. I prefer pin because they're cheaper.

 

I prefer pin because they (imo) are easier to work with. Ball-locks are tough to connect and disconnect when there's pressure in the keg. At least that's been my experience.

 

There's also a size difference. This can be the difference in fitting an extra keg or two into kegerator (due to width differences) or any kegs at all (due to height differences).
