So I've been on and off working through some APA recipes trying to nail down one that works consistently and tastes how I like my APAs. I've had quite a bit of luck with this one:

7 lbs 11.3 oz - Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) (Grain)
    1 lbs 0.3 oz - Munich I (Weyermann) (7.1 SRM) (Grain)
    7.0 oz - Caramel/Crystal Malt - 30L (30.0 SRM) (Grain)
7.0 oz - Wheat Malt, Pale (Weyermann) (2.0 SRM) (Grain)
    0.4 oz - Columbus (Tomahawk) [7.8%] - Boil 60 min (Hops)
    0.4 oz - Simcoe [10.3%] - Boil 60 min (Hops)
    0.4 oz - Citra [11.5%] - Boil 15 min (Hops)
    0.2 oz - Simcoe [10.3%] - Boil 15 min (Hops)
1.00 tsp - Irish Moss (Boil 10 min) (Misc)
    0.4 oz - Citra [11.5%] - Boil 5 min (Hops)
    0.2 oz - Simcoe [10.3%] - Boil 5 min (Hops)
    0.7 oz - Citra [11.5%] - Boil 0 min (Hops)
    0.4 oz - Simcoe [10.3%] - Boil 0 min (Hops)
    1 pkgs - Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) (Yeast)
    1.8 oz - Citra [11.5%] - Dry Hop 4 days (Hops)

That is a adaptation of this: http://beerrecipes.org/showrecipe.php?recipeid=11755#sthash.LLPOeOf2.FpueRbj0.dpbs

My only gripe is that it's not a nice reddy/orange colour, which I really like visually from APAs. It is a bit fussy, but if I can get this sorted I will be so stoked and able to move on to developing my other styles.
So: is there any addition to that grain bill that will help make it a darker colour (visualise this http://empirebrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/ipa.jpg ) and not change the taste too much? I'm OK with a slight increase in maltiness if that is what happens.

Add 2 pounds of Munich instead of one.

I find a couple oz of roasted barley brings out a nice reddish hue, although it does contribute some roastiness as well, of course.
