How can I check out the lil start assist device on my fridge that I use for fermentation chamber? ptcb ? I think is what its called. If it was a start capacitor I would know. Compressor pulling 10 amps for about 90 seconds and shuts down on overload. Found part online but $50 to experiment is beyond what I can just pitch if the compressor is siezing up. Thanks

After a quick look around Google my guess is it is a pcb type capacitor.

    So a few questions.

Does it have a ųf rating on it?

Does it look, feel, and act like a capacitor?

Can u borrow a capacitor from another appliance in your house to test?

Its a ptcr not a ptcb, Like I said if it was a capacitor I could easily test it. I dont work on small hvac/refrigeration equipt. I work on big stuff. I found a youtube vid finally so now to check it out thanks

Normally when those go, they break internally, so it will rattle and drop debris if you shake it. That's normally the preliminary test. can u post a picture if it?

It does sound like you need a new ptc relay. What model fridge is it? I may have something laying around.
