This is my second brew and I'm trying to let this one stay in the fermentor for longer to achieve a better, cleaner beer.
my question is do I keep the kraussen collar in for longer or do I take it out once the main fermentation has happened? Or will this not affect it.

Don't mind me I'm just brewing.

I'd let it go for 3-4 days during vigorous fermentation and then switch to an airlock. As far as getting cleaner clearer beer let it ferment out check, take a hydrometer reading and when it's finished cold crash it for a few days if you have somewhere that allows you to do it. That will allow it to really clear up.

I had to google what a kraussen collar was... Apparently it is something that comes in the coopers kits. From what I saw on the few threads that referenced the device they said you can take it out once the krausen has fallen.

Keeping your fermentation temps in check, usually toward the lower end of the yeast's range makes better beer. And yes, at those temps it takes longer. Even after visible signs of fermentation have stopped, the yeast is still working (conditioning phase), where it cleans up its act.

Please disregard any instructions hinting to rack off to a secondary after x number of days. Just leave it in the primary for the entire time. And don't touch that beer until it's done.
