Alright hops gurus....

I get this almost every year. Spray anti fungal on it and then I get hops. Any idea what it is? Any help would be much appreciated.

See any webbing around? That looks like a classic spider-mite and thrip dual-damage.

Though I've not tried it, I've heard here that a dilute solution of dish soap/water will take care of the mites. (Always better to start small, say 3-5%. If needed you can always increase the concentration.)

Same idea as many other pesticides with similar modes of action (MOA), it immobilizes the insects and then allows for dessication. Be careful as this may not work on larvae or eggs that have already been laid, and you may need to perform multiple applications as they have a a fairly rapid life-cycle.

If you use the dish soap method be sure to rinse it off after 20 min to an hour. If you leave the dish soap solution on the leaves it will keep the plant from taking in CO2.

 

Went with neem oil and it does not appear to be worse. Third year cascade. I got 2 pounds last year after it was dried. Hoping for good results this year. Thanks for all the input guys

One thing that will help in the future is spacing your canopy. Whether you choose to utilize the single string or v-style stringing, keep in mind that having an extremely dense canopy will be conducive to pests and fungi, so do your best to plan accordingly.

Glad to hear things are going okay, but make sure to continue applying, as there are likely still larvae that will hatch and they mature and reproduce quite rapidly.

 

Also remember that spider mites also hide out a majority of the time on the undersides of the leaves, so be sure to be spraying both above and below the leaf.
