On this note, does anyone else have a certain time of the year in which they just kind of lose it? I have come to expect it at this time of the year (and it's here this week) where I am pissed off about nothing, feel like things are all screwed up and life is going the wrong way...despite the fact that I know things are fine and I'll feel differently in a week or two. I have no explanation for it.

    This.

Also, if you attempt to take them off... they are destroyed.

I'm just talking about the stick-on temp strips that are like $3.

The goal would be to see if the bottoms out, or if it gives a false reading.

Crap. I think I have an extra one at home...I may give it a shot tonight while rummaging around the garage.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)? Go get some sun, or buy one those happy lights.

I could have written this exact thing this morning. I think it's the winter and being cooped up inside and the lack of vitamin d. I tend to get like this every year about this time.

Spring is right around the corner though! Probably not, but a guy can hope right?!

    Morning all, coffee

SAD is a real thing man. It mostly happens in the winter months and gets worse right around the equinox and into the colder months.
    https://www.google.com/#q=SAD+treatment+lamps
These work pretty well as treatment.
Or you can use the ultraviolet lamps elsewhere and still get a similar treatment

I take a week and a half off when the kids are on spring break and head to Florida. When that trip is within 2 weeks of happening, I usually break out of it and start getting **** done. I always fear that I will leave loose ends and be stressed out over that vacation. Funny thing is that busting ass to get stuff done is what I believe really fixes the "problem".

I used to work for a company that sold those happy lights and bought thousands of them from China.

Go get yourself a lamp and enough bulbs for 10,000 lux @ 1.2 meters.

    The markup is stupid.

No. I'd get them as tattoo's, all I'm saying.

I didn't know we were getting that ice storm, likely because of my disdain for the news. It was a pretty nasty drive home late last night. I did the usual slippery dance down the driveway but the poor puppy... excitedly ran to the edge of the deck and flew right off the stairs. Everything was completely frozen over this morning. The commute did in fact suck.

    Good. Good for you.

Only on days of the week that end in "Y". I get that a lot, for other reasons. It is extraordinarily bad in the winter though. Vitamin D3 supplement helps me a lot. It's hard feeling that way, if you need to talk to someone.. ya know, feel free to PM.

Thanks, man, but it is never that bad. I think I do a good job of putting things in perspective and understanding that this is not depression, this is a very temporary rut that I go through every year. But if this were a recurring thing that happened for more than a week or two a year, I'd absolutely go see someone about it. That would be tough to deal with.

EDIT: and now you're making me feel bad for the eyeore pictures. I just found that really funny after someone else called you "SADjockey". My father in law is a hypochondriac. Whenever he hears that someone is sick with something, he is convinced he has it. I'm sure he's showing signs of Zika virus right now. I always call him Eyeore.

If there was board game talk, I missed it. Please tell me someone here played Hero Quest when they were younger. That game was the awesomest. D&D lite. I actually ended up using the board and miniatures from HQ for D&D, after I lost the HQ books and items/furniture.

We try to do atleast 1 board game night a month with the boys, but as they get further and further into the teen years its getting harder to keep that kind of attention for something that. Maybe something with a little edge to it like this will help.
The baby is still a bit young to appreciate this, but by 6 she should be ready.

Never owned it but played with my older cousins a few times... fun game.

It's about $100 for a full used set in ok condition.

I honestly could not name you one player on the Wings right now...and I'm a huge sports fan. Just cannot get into hockey.

I do not really live IN Detroit. I am in the metro Detroit area but I am fairly close to a county line that, once crossed, is questionable as to whether you are still in the "metro Detroit" area.

Wow last time I looked, I couldn't find it anywhere. That is tempting.. I absolutely adored that game. Guess I wouldn't have anyone to play it with now but would put it away for kids, if that ever happens. I still have the board and I think a few of the skeletons with scythes. So fun.

If you have teens, maybe you need something with even more strategy/edge.

Pandemic is a great game and can be bought at Walmart off the shelf.

    https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/30549/pandemic

Cash and Guns is a great party-type game. 4 is an ok number, more is better.

    https://boardgamegeek.com/image/2286092/cah-n-guns-second-edition

Elder Sign is set in the Lovecraft mythos... and just awesome. More involved, but a great game.

    https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/100423/elder-sign

And one of my favorite quick-play games, Forbidden Island. Everyone that has played it has really liked it. The ~30 min play time is nice and the rules are fairly simple... but there is a lot of strategy and tension. And it's cheap.

At Christmas, one of my brother's kids got a game that was like Chess, only the pieces had mirrors on them and one piece on each side shot a little laser when you press down on it. The idea was that you capture pieces by pivoting the mirrors to position the laser to hit a piece on a side without a mirror...you then captured that piece. At least I think that is how it was played. It looked pretty cool...but I'm a huge Chess fan.

Do you do Disney or Universal when you go to Florida? Thinking about doing a day or two in Universal this summer with the boys while my wife takes our daughter to Disney. I've never been to Universal and was looking for some insider tips. If you ever need any info on Disney, I'll bomb your inbox with info.

We have gone to Disney 3 times since having kids. Never been to Universal. Typically we do not go to anyplace like that. My in-laws live in Florida during the winter and we just go down and stay with them. They have a nice in-ground pool and are close to the beach. We typically do not venture too far from their place once we arrive. Our trips usually coincide with opening day of baseball season, so my father-in-law will order some special satellite package that allows him to see ever MLB game...for just that week. I sit around at poolside, drinking beer, smoking cigars, and watching baseball all day.

My secret goal to suggesting Universal was wanting to have a Duff beer at Moe's tavern. I've wanted to that before I knew I liked beer. Its sort of like a secret childhood fantasy, to be part of that universe.
We have done Disney together with the baby at total of four times, six times total with the boys in tow. We are heading back in May for her birthday and the Flower and garden festival, August for summer vacation and a long weekend in December for the winter festivities and have a lunch and dinner or two with my grandpop.
The flower and garden show, btw, A+. Makes for a good time walking around Epcot, trying different foods and beverages from around the world and enjoying the flowers and topiaries.

The most I got at once was three or four amazing bifs at a time from extremely generous people that I may never be able to pay back. The beer filled an entire bookshelf, it made me so happy every time I walked by it that I didn't want to drink it.
