So I just saw that the Foodery is going to open a location in Phoenixville. Mixed feelings - will probably help push the craft market here, but man I really didn't want to buy that super-economy size tub of lube that's needed to pay their prices...

It could go either way...it could drive up the prices at your normal shops or those shops can keep their prices the same and keep the customers.

If it doesnt score as the top three sours in that comp, i would be very surprised. Id say it was a commercial quality flanders.

Coffee. Tons of work to do, no motivation to do any of it. You know it's gonna be a crappy day when everyone wakes up late.

Also wondering if I should submit anything to NHC this year just for poops and laughs, since this is my first year as an AHA member...

I would certainly give that Flanders a shot. NHC is quite the step up from a regular comp so dont get discouraged if it doesnt score like you think it should. Its still a fantastic beer!

The upcoming local one is a pretty big one (Homebrew Alley in NYC). The beer that won the sour category there last year (a gueuze, but the same guys swept the category with 2 fruited lambics as well) also went on to win the sour category at the final round of NHC.

Do it! If you're not in you can't win etc.

Was that the one that one the overall best in show at NHC. Two guys sat next to a barrel were in the Zymurgy winners' issue. I think it was a Geuze. But that's a guezz.

    Also

    Happy bithday Klubb.

Sounds like years of work. Was it the result of a solera?

You think they might have smiled in the picture. I'd be grinning from ear to ear, beer in hand, donning a festive hat perhaps.

Congrats to them. What an achievement. Congrats to you too having your beers faring well in comps with such powerhouses of brewing.

Yes, pretty sure it was a 1 vessel solera, pulling out and holding prior years in carboys for blending.

Well, nobody said anything about that. I only entered one beer in that one last year and it wasn't a sour.

Fingers crossed for this year though!

    Damn BK anyway.

I had my brew for Saturday all set up. IIPA. Boom, done... easy.

"Oh, here Psy... here's an awesome smoked beer."

Now I'm looking at smoked porters and the like, thinking that brewing a smoked beer while smoking meats sounds like a cool idea.

Back to dinking with water, recipe, etc.

I missed "the career change". What will the new career be? Is it beer related, hence the Siebel enrollment?

    Thanks man!

Surprisingly enough, just about everyone I know has already offered to volunteer for that haha. I imagine you will get a bottle.

Entry level job at a brewery. Ill have more details when its set in stone. Have my first interview tomorrow but pretty confident given my previous knowledge of the brewing process.

Thanks everyone! Very excited for this change and I seriously could not have been in the position I am now without the help I have received on HBT and most of you all on this thread as well. Cheers! :mug:

Good deal, fins. Do it now if you want to do it. I wouldn't change careers if I could, but if I wanted to do something like that now, no way could I. Too many people dependent on the security I have at this stage of the game.

Exactly why I figured I needed to do it now. I didn't want to question or "what if" down the road without ever trying. I'm 24 and have no dependents yet so now is the time to make such changes. It wont be without sacrifice though. If I land that entry level job, the pay cut is half of my current salary.

I was 25 when I woke up one day and said "damn it, if I ever want to go to law school like I have always said, I better do it NOW".

Career changes at the age of 40 are a lot tougher than at the age of 20 something if you have kids and people who expect you to be an adult.
