I was wondering if u can brew a 3 gal batch in a 5 gal fermenter, or if that’s too big and will affect the blow off? Thanks.

I do 2 1/2 gallon batches in a 6 1/2 gallon fermenter all the time and with that much space a blowoff is never needed. If you have a choice between a 5 gallon and a 6 1/2 gallon, go for the bigger one. You can brew a 5 gallon batch in a 6 1/2 gallon fermenter but not a 5 gallon one.
