any one ever do a lemon basil wheat? or even a basil wheat ? how much did or would u add and when to add it? (5 gal) dry hop or not? any particular hop? i was thinkin about doin one. thanks and God Bless

I was always wondering if you can have basil in beer, since its my favorite spice to cook with. I would love to see someones tried it and turned out well.

yeah my wife adds is to a lil drink she makes and i thought about it. after researchin' i see that there is a honey basil from Bison. of course neva' had it but looks like alot of people say that cant even taste the basil. but anyway i wanted to make a wheat and add it. just didnt know how much or when? fresh or dry? dry hop or not? bitter beer or not? (dont wanna hide the basil right) i dont know. anyone?

cool thanks i had seen that in my searches. does it have a good basil taste?

boilin' the honey?

"The problem with boiling honey is that honey is made up of hundreds of different compounds that create it's flavor profile. Many of these flavor compounds are volitile, meaning they vaporize and dissipate with the application of heat. Honey that has been heated tastes dead, just a sweet syrup. The flavors that make it taste like honey are provided by these volitile compounds. Most mead makers do not boil thier honey, and many don't heat it at all."

isnt this correct?

When I make mead I do not boil the honey. The honey was added with only 5 minutes left so it wasn't boiled very long. The honey flavor as well as the basil flavor are both present. I am still waiting for this beer to carb so I will have a better opinion of the flavor as well as a side by side comparison with Bison's Honey Basil in a few weeks.
