What I did for beer today

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it, but laminating another piece of oak to what I have vs shipping 4 pounds of cutoff will satisfy my inner cheap-skate ;) Cheers! :mug:

What I did for beer today

I need to do something similar, the one-by piece of oak scrap I used works but at a mere 11/16" thick is just too thin to work well, even after using flat-bottom Forstner bits. Not having any thicker scrap on hand I might glue another piece to the bottom and drill the holes deeper... Cheers!

Gee whiz, what are you guys doing for corn these days?

That'd definitely mess up my grain mill  Anyway I was clued in about the B3 origins... Cheers!

    Mash tun too big??

Pre-heating a mlt is helpful for establishing an initial condition. But the same endpoint can be accomplished with a strike temperature that accounts for equipment losses. I plug grain and mlt temperatures into Beersmith3 and it tells me the strike temperature to use to hit my desired initial...

Gee whiz, what are you guys doing for corn these days?

Interesting. I rely on Beersmith3 to figure OG and when I use 30% flaked corn unprepped in the mash the predicted OG is always within a point... Cheers!

    Mash tun too big??

That's the kind of problem a good brew day software program should help with - but it requires a solid "equipment profile" to truly be helpful... Cheers!

    Mash tun too big??

fwiw, I do 10 gallon batches on a 20 gallon mlt on a 3v2p herms rig and my 1.107 OG stout barely fits with maybe 2 inches of freeboard. I definitely would have problems using a 15 gallon mlt... Cheers!

Lol! I feel I'm posting for posterity in this historically feeble thread (home brewers don't dig b-ball? Who knew?) but with the Boston Celtics taking a 3-0 series lead over the Indiana Pacers after a stunning come-back win tonight in beautiful downtown Indianapolis I had to take note  No...

Gee whiz, what are you guys doing for corn these days?

Well, sure, can't disagree there are plenty of options when it comes to corn. But, that said, imo flaked corn requires the least prep - virtually zero, in fact - of all the easily obtained options. All the rest require some form of pre-cooking to use in the mash which is a comparative pita...

Gee whiz, what are you guys doing for corn these days?

I do not know the yield equivalence between flaked corn and canned corn, but the latter can be had for as little as $0.62/pound from the likes of Wal-Mart. My suspicion is flaked at even $2.39/pound is still cheaper per gravity point as there's a ton of water in canned corn. And then there's the...

Gardening 2024 - Whatcha got going on this year?

8'x24' doesn't look like much now but it'll be crammed with greenery by July. Tomatoes to the left with four heirlooms at the back, two kinds of bell peppers in the middle foreground followed by summer squash hills and then a line of cukes across the back. Herbs down the right. Near-left...

My CV and the USPTO strongly suggest otherwise ;) Anyway, I never got into the "Rings" and that stuff. My reading for pleasure is more Arthur C. Clarke and his ilk... Cheers!
