Well my brewdays are now going to be outdoors or in the garage after ruining a Stainless Steel Stovetop with my 2009 IPA last night.

The pot must have gotten too hot and now there is brown/black discoloration on the stove.

Doesn't the name Stainless Steel imply that it's STAINLESS??

Some polishing cream and a dremel might help...

Messing up our cooker and being banished to the garage was the best screw up I ever made.

My #1 rule when brewing in the house is to ensure I don't leave a mess for SWMBO. She has no problem with my brewing because my brewing is no problem to her. Unfortunately even if you cleaned up the stove top she already sees brewing as a source of destruction of her beloved kitchen. Buy a Banjo.

Try some Bar Keepers Friend on the discoloration. It's worked for me in the past on discolored stainless.

BTW, being banished to the garage is a good thing.

You can try a super fine grit sand paper, wetted with some starsan solution. It will easily take off that discoloring, but if your stainless is brushed, it will probably disrupt the brushed design. It won't leave any scratches if you use a fine sand paper. Try it on stainless pot first though. Don't use sandpaper if your stove top is highly polished or brushed.

Ouch, that sucks. Well, now you can set up in the garage and build your own little brewery!
