For my first batch ever (on Sunday) I purchased 6 one gallon jugs of 'spring water'. I boiled 4 gallons, then sanitized the gallon jugs with LD Carlson's one-step product (and caps). I then siphoned the boiled water back into the jugs for later use. I didn't boil two of the six gallons because they would be boiled for 60 minutes in my partial boil.
This was time consuming and boring, but gave me a chance to practice sanitizing. Can I use city water? It tastes bad, though. Won't most off flavors be removed through boiling?
