So I jumped on the bandwagon and tried my hand at both a IIPA and continuous hopping and first wort hopping.

My question is how is the best way to figure the IBUís of this monster.
Here is what I did, if you can tell me your estimates that would be great. I did some calculations myself and came up with an estimate of 84 IBU. I may be way off.
My OG is 1.071
Hops used
Amarillo whole leaf @ 9.3 AAU
Simcoe whole leaf @ 12.9 AAU

Ĺ oz each first wort hopping

Then:
I took 3oz of each mixed in a big bowl
I added ľ oz every 2.5 min for a total of 60 min

Any help from the IBU Gods?
Cheers
JJ

I'm retarded...

I mistook the 3oz of each to mean 3 oz. total starting at 60 min...

At any rate, the IBU's are up there.

yes, theoretically you could calculate the IBU contribution from each addition and add them up for your IBUs. I would suggest making a spreadsheet to do it and sharing it with everyone on the board!

Or you could see how the beer comes out, since it's already brewed at this point and what is done is done...

Oh brother If I could design and create a spreadsheet I would. Thatís a bit more than I can do.
I am not really worried about the beer, just wondering how to calculate it.
I calculated my additions into 4 groups

60 min:
Amarillo 1.25 oz 21% utilization 16 IBU
Simcoe 1.25 oz 21% utilization 22 IBU

45 min:
Amarillo .75oz 18% utilization 8 IBU
Simcoe .75oz 18% utilization 11 IBU

30 min:
Amarillo .75oz 15% utilization 6.5 IBU
Simcoe .75oz 15% utilization 9 IBU

15 min:
Amarillo .75oz 11% utilization 5 IBU
Simcoe .75oz 11% utilization 6.75 IBU
Total of 84.25

with the FWH going into the 60 min group

I wanted to see it there was a better way, or for that matter a more accurate way to calculate the hopping schedule

Am I still half asleep, or does 1/2 oz every 2.5 min make 1 oz every 5 minutes, not 10 minutes?
