Default Oops! Left the cap on my auto-siphon & it worked even better

There I am...finally moving my Sam Smith Winter Welcome clone from my primary to my secondary after 4 weeks...(beer tastes ammaazzzzinggg...best so far)....and I'm saying to myself...wow...Im doing 1 helluva job of not sucking up any trub. Come to find out...when I go to clean my equipment afterwards..I realized I left the cap on the auto-siphon. Does any1 do this on purpose?...I swear I had better results.

Also...I was shocked to see how clear the beer was to begin with after sitting 4 weeks in the primary. I may start doing this w/ all my beers. I couldve gone straight to bottling with this 1...but Ive got alot of pumpkin on hand still....and bottling can be painful for me.

If you're talking about the cap that fits over the tip of the auto siphon, that's what it's for.

Allows you to set the siphon on the trub without picking it up too much.

Yeah, that's not a protective cap for storage. It's for directing the flow of wort away from the bottom of the carboy just like the racking cane caps. I can image how hard it was to use with the cap off.

Huh?

You are supposed to leave that cap ON. Geesh! There is another revalation I had not considered.

I took me a month to realize that you are supposed to attach a hose to the bend rather than trying to let the beer cascade into the bottles or bucket.

Wow. This will be a life saver.

Just the other day, I figured out that the steel disc with all the holes in it isn't just just for protecting the bottom of the mash tun during storage. Awesome!

Wow.....I gotta lay off the homebrew before I start to kill some more braincells.
