Hey All,
I have perused many different forumns for many different topics over the years and have noticed that some of the gardening forums have exchanges where you can exchange different varieties of plants. I think it would be an awesome way for us to exchange our precious hops. It sure would be an easy way to gain new strains.

Rhizomes are easy to collect in the spring of the year. You would need to collect them package and ship them soon after they appear in March in most temperate zones.

So I'll start this off...

I have a Heriloom Variety of Bittering hops to offer up. It's a nice starter hops for bittering. I do not know the variety. My guess is that it was planted during the prohibition days. It has a high Alpha Acid content and produces loads of good cones with lots of Lupulin. It's mold resistant and grows in northern climates. That's about all I can say about it.

I would be willing to trade rhizomes off of it for rhizomes off of any other varietys or pay a nominal fee for them. I am willing to ship a sample of the hops flowers from this years harvest to those interested.

Anyhow I figured we could try and keep this going and see what comes of it.

Cheers

Joe

What area of the country are you in? We might be able to hazard a guess where you are based on your geography.

Alas, WA prohibits the import of Rhizomes... Otherwise I'd be happy to purchase a couple from you.

I'm still trying to find a local, WA, supply. my local HB stores aren't all that great, I may have to go to the big city.

On almost the same subject - I have 5 friends that are willing to grow 5 different strains of Hops. How or where is the best way to GET Rhizomes. Can I order them somewhere? Is there a place where Home Brewers go?

I got mine for the Thyme Garden,Thyme Garden Herb Company organically grown herbs, herb seeds, plants, and hops. I was well pleased with the price and quality of plants. I know there are several other suppliers.

You will not be able to get any until March or April, because the plant is dormant and they should not be dug up now.

I would be interested, except this will be only their second year. I do not think it would be very good on their limited root complex right now.

Reason: can't spell

I would be in on this for 2010, my plants are also only one year old and I've ready I shouldn't try to harvest rhizomes this upcoming year.

I'll have to figure out which hops I want between now and march, and then I'll take a ride out there (beautiful spot - well worth the visit if you're in the area) and pick em up myself ;-)

Glad to finally get some interest in this thread. I actually have access to some other strains here growing on campus. Yes they actually have labelled known varieties. ;-)

It would be nice to get something like this seeded now and start a yearly trade (where legally accepted).
