Default Cooler Thermometer

Converting a 5 gal Igloo cooler for mashing. Has anyone ever tried installing a brewmometer in the side? Or is this gonna just wreck a perfectly good cooler?

I gave it serious thought & decided not to.

This guy has a MUCH better and cheaper design. I hear it has worked for almost 2 years without a single leak. Check it out!

If the mash tun is not stirred then that fixed thermometer will read the grain closest to it but they are a pain in the a$$ because you keep hitting them when you do stir. I do not have one in my mash tun at this time.

I only stir my mash twice, and since I run a HERMS, it reads pretty accurately. If you open the lid to take various temps in various places, you are going to cool your mash too much.
