Default In process on my first AG

Well, some of you may have seen my previous threads about brewing a beer for my daughter to be, and I figured there is no better beer to go all out than this, so I did it AG.

I doughed in a while ago and am about to drain my second batch sparge. I will report back with pictures and my efficiency here soon.

Nice, I'm diggin' the instant read thermometer. I really need to get one of those, I have been through five crap digital thermometers and all of them died. They aren't worth anything!

Tonight was the maiden voyage and so far I am VERY impressed. They have some on refurb right now (which is why I could swing it). I think it was like $60 shipped. Just call the number on their website and ask about it.

Well, its in the fermenter - I am pretty sure there is something wrong, because I am coming out at 1.034 corrected SG, which would put me at 42% efficiency. At least I REALLY hope its not that low, that will totally hose my ABV and bitterness ratio. I shook the heck out of the carboy before taking the reading though

Yeah, it tasted pretty good. It was a little bitter and slightly watery though, which kind of further points to a low sg....I think I have decided that I didn't collect enough runnings on the batch sparge. Beersmith calculated 3 gallons of sparge water and I think I should have had at least 1 more gallon on there, probably leading to all of my issues.

I think I am going to boil a lb of DME today and toss it in there to try and balance out the bitterness a little bit.
