how do i know what the ABV is of my home brew

Buy a hyrdometer, take before and after readings. Calculate.

I just use beersmith to do it for me, or you can do it long hand, or enter it in here: Hydrometer Correction

how much does it vary or is there a rough average and how can i make it stronger if it is a variable

question, why do different references use different numbers to multiply by?

take the differance between the two readings multiply by 1.1 then by 1.5 you will then have your content

so when i bottle i take a hydrometer readinfg then one when ready and do the math! can i make it stronger or do i just have to see how it truns out ?
