Try cleansing your palate with some lemon sorbet, or eat some cheese with your beer. Some things are best tasted together.

smoiking, certain foods, medications etc can all affect your pallet.

have you ever had a stout with Humus? ough.

Non-smoker. I've tried palate cleansing. Sometimes they taste-buds just ain't happy no matter what.

Guess it could be meds interaction. I'll have to check the side-effects again.

Kind of Sucky thing is I love beer and I love hot spicy foods, but I inherited GERD.

Neither of which are good for it. Ah well, I'll have another pint!

Food changes beer tastes for me drasticly. I very rarely eat and drink beer at the same time. Usually just have a coke with dinner and beer before and after.

I understand where you are coming from. My perceptions of flavor change wildly. One way I have noticed it changing in regards to beer is my perception of sweet, malty and bitter. One day I will try an IPA I brewed and it will seem lacking in hop flavor. Next day I open another bottle of it and it is taste adequately hopped. Last year I brewed really malty brown ale. Some days I could hardly taste the malt. I bought a pack of Avery’s Brown ale, which is pretty malty, and I experienced the same. That was when I realized it was me. And I’ve done the palate cleansing thing, as well (and I don’t smoke). When it is on, I amaze people. Because of this I never do tasting notes on my recipes until almost all the beer is gone.
