Default unfiltered CO2?

My brother-in-law is a welder, and can probably get me a tank with unfiltered CO2 in it for my kegging. Is this a terrible idea? I read the only other thread I could find about it, and there was something mentioned about putting a filter on the line myself.

Any thoughts/recommendations? If nothing else, I might get the tank from him on the cheap, and get it refilled by a company that does filter.

All CO2 is produced by condensing it out of the air. It is all the same. It is all pure. Some tanks are certified as food-grade, but it is meaningless except as a legality.

You want to put a check valve in the line to avoid getting beer in your regulator.
