Default Comparing shanks. What's $6 better about this one?

4 inch shank, $20.95:

4 Inch Draft Beer Shank – Draft Beer Parts and Accessories - KegWorks

4 inch shank, $14.75:

I'm buying 5, so it's a $30 difference. But it's not so much the $30 as it is choosing the best shank. Is the $21 shank appreciable better than the $15 one? The only difference I see is the $21 shank is 304 Stainless Steel, and the $21 shank is plated brass. What's the functional difference?

You can get a 4" shank with a nipple for $13 here:
- Superior Products

I haven't used them, but it seems like a lot of people buy those when they get their perlick faucets from superprod.

Beer is acidic. Eventually the plating will degrade and flake.

Look around more for a less expensive stainless shank. They are out there.

OK thanks. So the stainless does have a real advantage. I'll check around some more.

If there are cheaper stainless shanks, I haven't found them. I have the nippled ones from superprod and they're holding up OK after a year.

I ended up ordering 5 Perlick Faucets ($32 each) and 5 4-inch nipple shanks ($16) from Rapids Wholsale Equipment. I may have been able to save a couple bucks on the shanks somewhere else, but the Perlicks were about as cheap as I've seen.

@Stunned, Super Prod has about the same price on the Perlicks, $31.29 plus ship. Excellent find tho! I think my shanks were $18 ea from Austin HB.
