The homebrew bug bit me tonight but all my fermenters were full already with delicious beer and I didn't have any grain onhand anyway. So I figured I'd try making root beer! I got out some licorice and sarsparilla root I ordered from AHS ages ago that I never bothered to experiment with, and, adding whatever seemed good as I went, boiled it with hops, molasses, sugar, salt and orange peel.

I guess we'll see how it turns out. Cheers

Sounds interesting and experimental.

Well I was able to drink about two glasses of it before I decided it was enough and threw it out. No hops next time, less molasses and save the yeast carbonation for the fruit flavored sodas. Boiling the roots gave good flavor though, I will probably try again in the future. Maybe make a syrup and mix it with soda water or carbonate it in a soda spritzer.
