Default Save yeast from a starter?

Why go through the hassle of washing yeast from a primary fermenter when you can just make a big starter before a batch, then use half the yeast & save the other half from the starter?

Ex: If I normally make a 2qt. starter...make it a gallon then save half the yeast for later.

That's what I usually do. I'll make a big starter, pitch about 3/4 of it, then add some more starter wort to it, and I'll either put it in the fridge if I'm going to use it shortly or freeze it down.

If you are using DME to make your starter wort, it is an additional expense over just using the beer you are already making. Plus you get more yeast out of a 5 gallon batch and washing over stepping up a starter several times.
I'm sure that would work fine, but you get soo much yeast from washing!

Cool thx. Never thought of it from a cost perspective. Makes sense now.
