It seems after much posturing and complaining, Bengals WR Chad Johnson has finally jumped on board. Even as a Cincinnati Bengals fan, I am the eternal optimist: I hope to see a pair of Pro Bowl receivers and Pro Bowl QB do their thing with the help of a (hopefully) much-improved defense. With any luck improved defensive strategy and team chemistry is just the shot in the arm this team needs. Here's to returning the AFC North to its rightful place as the toughest division in football!

I'm also looking forward to the start of the season for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (alma mater). After finishing the season in the top 25 for the first time ever and the return of the majority of a talented defense, it's looking to be a good year for Brian Kelly and his squad.

Who's your team? Who's your nemesis? Or do you think football is a game played with a round black-and-white ball kicked into a net in excruciatingly boring fashion?

Heck yeah. Unfortunately, all of my sources for Eagles tickets are looking like they will not produce this year. On the bright side, me and some old buddies are trekking out to Seattle for the Eagles Hawks game in Nov. Look out Naked City.

He should have jumped softer, seeing as how it injured his ankles.

I've been a Packer fan for forty+ years and this year will be interesting as the beginning of the post-Favre era. I've no idea what to expect out of them this year. As to nemesis, I grew to dislike the Cowboys as, for three years in a row ('93-'95), the Pack was knocked out of the playoffs by the Cowboys. The year they finally made it ('96 season, '97 Superbowl) they didn't play the Cowboys in the playoffs (Carolina beat Dallas in the divisionals). On the one hand, I was disappointed they didn't go through Dallas to win the Superbowl but -- considering they had lost to Dallas 21-6 during the regular season -- I was kind'a relieved they didn't have to.

I'm looking forward to football, but I have a feeling this is going to be a hard season to enjoy. Losing the Super Bowl was SO disappointing after the 18-0 start, there's really no room for error. There's a lot of baggage left from how last season ended, if they don't win it all, it's all for naught. They can go 16-0 in the regular season again (not that I think they will), and it won't mean anything until the playoffs.

Whodathunk, the Patriots would be the one Boston team (Bruins don't count) without a title over the past twelve months!

It's all about frame of reference, isn't it? I remember when the Bengals had a non-losing (not winning mind you, 8-8) season 5 years ago. Everyone in Cincinnati was excited beyond belief; but then, we were getting used to 2-14! Your Patriots used to be pretty terrible for a time, too, so I imagine you know what I mean. But as fans as soon as we get something we need more. You're getting used to your team winning championships, so nothing less is acceptable. I can't blame you, but trust me, it's an enviable situation to be in!

Incidentally, the Patriots rank 3rd on my list of most-hated teams (no offense meant), behind Pittsburgh (#2) and Cleveland (#1). As we say in Cincinnati, if it's brown flush it down!
