Check this out. When you use what you have you do amazing things. This guys used a Douglas fir as the trellis.

Maybe I should move the Sunbeam up slope. The shade would be good for it.

Originally when I was getting ready to make a trellis, was thinking...man what am I gonna use? So, I cut down a few trees for my poles and ran high tensile fence wire through them (which I had laying around). It seems to be working great. I sunk them about 4'.

Wow, GREAT solution! So do the roots of the tree present any problems for the hop vines?

I've been thinking about doing this up the side of a River Birch I have. But I suspect that it would be a PITA come harvest time. But on the other hand I think it would look awesome.

well the Douglas Fir will sufer a bit because of it, but I guess thats his choice
