Crooked Rooster English Style IPA

A good way to use up some of those EKG pellets Bobby_M dished up from the Sam Adams stash...

(very) Partial Mash
3.75qt water @ 168F
Mash @ 153F for 60 minutes
1lbs Crystal 40L
2 lbs American Six-row Pale

2 gal 170F sparge
3lbs X-Pale Dry Malt Extract
3.3lbs Amber Malt Extract Syrup
1oz Fuggle 4.0%AA 90min
0.5oz East Kent Golding 6.2%AA 60min
0.5oz East Kent Golding 6.2%AA 30min
0.75oz East Kent Golding 6.2%AA 15min
1oz Irish Moss 15min
0.5oz East Kent Golding 6.2%AA 0min
Nottinghams Yeast

OG 1.059
FG 1.013
IBU 53
ABV 5.9 %
SRM 11

I would have used all pale extract and more 40L... just trying to use up some of this non-pale LME I have kickin around. Lets say 2# 40L if you use all pale extract.

This recipe has been kegged up, carbed, and (kinda) aged. Its an IPA... best young! The beer cleared up real nice, a reddish brown color, has a nice white head, laces the entire glass. Its still carbing up so I expect head retention to improve over the next week or two. The flavor is ohhhh sooo good! Highly fragrant, smooth bitterness, and blends great to a earthy malty finish. Overall killer session brew! I'll be making (A LOT) more of this. It finished a little bit higher than what I would expect from Nottinghams, but that may because I hit a little high on the PM temp. I can see that accounting for 2-3 points in the FG.

Now comes the real test, don't drink it all before my 4th of July party!!! ARRGH!! IMPOSSIBLE!
