After reading RichBrewers thread on Mini Mash systems and conveniently seeing a blue 3 gal square igloo cooler on sale at the Jewel (Albertsons) for $11 the other day I decided to pick it up and make a mini MLT. Also at the Jewel I saw for the first time the SN ESB. Good Stuff, not a true English ESB, but tasty.
So after consuming and creating last night I decided to tinker with my new beer smith software today to try a PM version of a clone.
I'm new at Beer Smith and Partial/Mini Mashing so I thought I would post the synopsis of the Beer Smith report here for review and comment before I get the ingredients and jump right in.
I tried to mirror the hop profile listed on the SN website, but realize that I probably won’t be able to get the hop types I used in Beer Smith, so I guess the hop schedule is mostly a guide in terms of AA% when I get to the LHBS.
Mini Mash Ingredients
3.00lbs Maris Otter
1.00lbs Crystal 40L
6 qts Strike Water at 170F
2 gal Sparge Water (2 sparges of 1 gal each) @ 170F
Top up to 3 gallons and add
1.25lbs Light DME
60 Min Boil
3.3lbs Pilsner LME late boil addition (15 total boil time)
1.00oz Challenger 7.5AA – 60min
1.00oz Challenger 7.5AA – 30min
0.50oz Challenger 7.5AA – 20min
0.50oz Goldings 5.0AA – 10min
SRM = 9.2
IBU = 47
Est OG = 1.059
Est FG = 1.014
