Hi all,

First year hop grower here (planting 3 cascade, 3 williamette this saturday in the Philly suburbs)...just curious what you guys have done with first year plants; i've read "1 shoot/rhizome" but i've also seen recommendations to create a V-shaped trellis to support two shoots from each root...just curious what you experienced hop-growers recommend!
Drinking: Bock, Holiday Hard Cider, APA, Allied Ale Ordinary Bitter (my 1st custom recipe)
Primary: #1) Empty!
Secondary: #1) Imperial Wit (NB Kit)
Secondary: #2) Extra Chocolate Stout
1G Test Jug: Pomegranite-Blueberry Wine

In planning: Northern Brewer IPA kit w/homegrown hops for dry hopping

My first year as well. I read 2 or 3 per string, selecting the strongest of the shoots and cutting the rest back.
Too much too fast to keep track of...

I heard the same thing. I only have two plants, so I'm going with three shoots from each.

First year the plant is focusing on root growth, some say leave them all. I trimmed them back to 3-4 and had no problems. Hope it helps.
Got Hops?

There is no problem to big or small not to be fixed by enough beer!
Just do not have your beer held hostage by the wife or you will never get anything halfway done!
