Well not necessarily the right grain, because it works fine. I bulk order of Briess Pale Ale malt from the lhbs. I was looking through the malt chart on the wiki and saw it there listed with an srm of 3.5 and a potential extract of 1.034, two points lower than that of the generic 2-row and 2 points darker as well. I'm sure this grain is better suited for some beers, but I kind of thought that 2-row was a better encompassing all around base malt.
I like making maltier beers in general, but also like to be able to keep the color down when a style calls for it and that seems hard to do with lots of grain at 3.5L.
So I guess I'm asking should I stick with the pale ale malt or go with a more generic 2-row. Then my problem is I looked through the lhbs' grains available in bulk and there really is no "2-row".
