tried my hand at an amber recipe again today and ran into a couple issues...
i used 12lbs 2.0 oz of grain and it told me to use 16.16 qts of water... heated to strike temp mashed in and hit temps perfectly and mash ph was great...
seemed to be alittle too much water but went ahead and rode it out... sparged good and got my wort ready for boil...
1st issue was i missed my pre boil gravity by alot
Est. 1.042 measured 1.029
made up for it in adding DME to boil... but why was it so far off?
2nd issue was after using all my sparge water and collecting all my wort i was .50 gallon shoot of pre boil volume why i used exactly the volumes it called for..
thanks in advance
