Why and how does this happen?

Seriously? My SO told me I was "obsessed", I said "nah, it's just just a hobby..." But I must digress, it consumes my every though, I can't go anywhere without trying to find a use out of every random thing I see for brewing, and I can only think about my next grain bill.

Seriously, it's become an issue. I'm constantly trying to figure out a way to make things for the brewery or how I can sneak in an extra brew day in.

I know I'm not the only one, my question is A, when does this subside and you "just brew", and B, how does everyone else cope?

Hopelessly addicted to brewing beer,
Tac

Yep - that is the line I get from my wife as well. I just tell her brewing is part hobby, part entertainment, and part food, so budget wise it really should have financing from all three of those areas. Plus, my hobby is in the basement. I am not out on the golf course or spending days in an expensive fishing boat.

As an added bonus, I have ready made gifts for the postal, UPS, and Fed-Ex drivers, various friends and family, and random other people when the need arises.

She rolls her eyes and mutters about being fanatical about my "beer stuff", but she is fortunately very tolerant of my hobby!

Every hobby for me is this way especially in the beginning...its a good thing and keeps life headed in a positive direction regardless of whats thrown at you.. My excitement vacillates from hobby to hobby as my moods or season change. Summer finds me thinking everything sail boat...Spring everything fishing and golf..Fall and winter brewing. So it goes.

Don't worry your normal.

I am 100% with you on that one. This hobby is as fun as it is rewarding. I'm just getting my feet wet and already have the itch... haven't been to Vegas in a while so I know it's the beer!

It's the same for me. I get to where I want to master the hobby, whatever it is. While I may never quite "master" it, when the mysteries are no more, it's time to move on.

I'm just amazed at how easy it is to brew beer, coupled with the endless complexity. It's a beautiful combination.

I've been brewing for about six years now, so it's not as new and exciting, but I still get excited for each brew day and spend a lot of time reading and shopping for brewing stuff. It's a fun hobby that is not only fun to brew, but it produces a tangible consumable product that, if done correctly, can and will save money in the long run. So long as your obsession doesn't turn into an addiction, don't worry about it!

Haha there is just so much that I want to do in his hobby.

I just can't help looking for anything and everything to do with brewing. It's nothing I can help

Ya well you felt the same way the first time you shot a 50 BMG too. So much fun what can I destroy next!...More bullets more bullets is all that mattered in your sleep that night.

Stillraining, never had the pleasure, but I'm sure I could understand the desire to keep blowing **** up!

K1ngl1ves, I just don't know if I'll ever get into kegging. I think it'd be handy, but I love the transportability of my brew the way it is

But boy a keezer sure would be nice!

I think I am in the same boat..Hey, move over some!..LOL...Anyways, at least I don't have a SWMBO around here, tho my daughter would say otherwise and that it is her..But, yeah, it seems like most of the day I am thinking about the beers I have going and what I want to do next..To show how bad it has gotten for me..I got a fridge off craigslist to make a kegerater, ordered a kegerater kit from keg-connection, haven't started it yet. Fridge is pert near slam full of beer and THEN I order the 4 keg special Great Fermentations is/was having(they should arrive Monday)..So, yeah, I think the 'obsession' thing is in me now..LMAO

Or a full auto, my grandfather was a class 3 dealer. Hell of a lot of fun rattling off rounds out of a Mac-10.

Same here. Brewed the past several weekends and now all my fermenters are full. Thought I was going to have this weekend "off" from brewing. So what do I do? Trip to Lowes to buy all the stuff to build a wort chiller. If I can't brew, might as well upgrade equipment! :mug:

My mind revolves around what new concoction I can make up next. I am an avid cook who readily makes up my own recipes so brewing has become something I can really jump into. There is an an orchard 45 minutes away that does pick your own cherries and I go every year and pick a bunch. That isn't until June and I'm already eager to get sour pie cherries to incorporate into a beer. Yeah I probably think about brewing too much.

That's why there's growler fillers and beer guns! If it wasn't for kegging, I'd have stopped brewing a long time ago. The novelty of bottling wears quickly...

Kegging is wonderful. You can always bottle right off the tap (with no sediment) if you need bottles). Also, there's this: New homebrew toy

I find kegging to be way more fun than bottling.
I hope I can kick this keg of wheat so I can fill it with stout.

Here we go another thread turned "bottling vs kegging" [emoji53]
I love this hobby so much and it is probably my favorite but as with all of them it is somewhat seasonal and I like that.
I take my summers off from brewing and playing hockey to skydive and work (which pays for my brewing and hockey).
I like to finish up a brewing season in the spring with a Marzen that will lager all summer and be ready by the beginning of my next brewing season (October).
This keeps me from getting burned out from any one thing.

I haven't been brewing that long but once the hobby/obsession hit, it hit me hard. Being that I am a big DIYer I built my own single tier strut stand, then it was on to building a grain mill station to improve my efficiency and being that I wanted to expand the amount of beers I could ferment, next up was a fermentor.

Now the kegging obsession has just hit me and I just received in the mail a 2 faucet basic homebrew kegerator kit with converted ball locks. Guess I will need to buy an accessory to make it all work, you know, a freezer. So off to the big box stores I go today to see what I can find. Eventually this will become a keezer with 4 or 6 taps. Haven't decided on the amount yet.

My next quest after the keezer, build a brew room. So yeah, its an obsession... Oh, by the way did a mention, I like Yooper am a woman in this hobby.

Yeah, you are hooked. When I first started I spent so much time here trying to learn as much as possible, that my called it my beer porn. Still spend a lot of time here. Now about 250 brews in and I still get excited about brewing.

You are doomed.

That smile in your avatar says it all! Your completely hooked!

I have been brewing for over 6 years and it wears off eventually, I am always excited when I get to brew. Now my "obsession" goes in waves, if I have a brewing project I'm focused on that till its done then I'm ok till the next project.

I finished most of my brewery in about 3 years and early last year I finally built my ferm chamber so for the most part I've been focused on brewing

Yeah I go in waves too. Building the brewery was the most fun part for me. I need to get into more experimentation recipe wise to get some of that jazz back. Constantly don't know what to brew, get bored. Next recipe will have turtles or something.

Haha turtles!

I just "want" everything now and of course, it's just not feasible financially. Which of course is a good thing cause it makes my mind figure out other ways to achieve the desired out come.

I really want some chugger pumps, a nice wort chiller, and a ferm chamber. Amongst a million other things no doubt.

Actually, I want my keg turned into an electric keggle, have another for an hlt, and some chugger pumps to run all the liquid around.

Now I'm just rambling. Adhd is a pita!
