What does your Homebrew club do for activities? I'm look for some new ideas.

Listing some of the more obvious for you smart-a$$es out there;
  • Drink HB
  • Group Brew Sessions
  • Attend Local Beer Festivals
  • Microbrewery Pub Crawls
Here are some of the more unique activities that we have done or are planning to do;
  • Conduct Parallel Yeast Culturing (Basically splitting a big starter 6 ways and swapping, each doing a different yeast)
  • Internal Beer Judging Competitions;
  • IPA Competition
  • Same Recipe Competition
  • Super Big Batch Barleywine Brewday (splitting many ways after chilling the wort)
  • Geezerfest (Drinking 60's & 70's Era Beer)

On Tap; Special Export, Spring SmaSH Summit, House Amber.

About all I could add, is holding occasional meetings in brewpubs. This is a good way to introduce members to new places. Oregon Brew Crew has four Out meetings a year.

Almost forgot: the Barrel project. Get a used wine barrel and have the members brew a style that ages well. Dump 8-12 different batches into the barrel. Wait a LONG time, tap & distribute.
Remember one unassailable statistic, as explained by the late, great George Carlin: "Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider!"

A few of us are trying to make it more than drinking 16+ beer styles in a given evening. Nothing wrong w/ that.

For us the normal monthy meetings are;

7-8pm - Sampling beer, cider & mead.
8-8:30pm - Club Business, discusion of local activities, competitions, next purchases (group buys to save shipping $$), club t-shirt orders, & etc.
8:30-11PM - Beer Drinking

Activities usually fall outside of the meeting. - Weekend Stuff...

David 42 - The barrel project idea is cool!!!

We have a BJCP style profile each month. Members are asked to bring two bottles of one of the sub-categories. The beer is compared with the style guide as a way for us to train our palate and educate.

We do two activities a month, a meeting/competition and a brews day.

Our club meeting consists of a style competition and a people's choice competition. And then we discuss any club business, hand out the awards for the competitions, and then just hang out and drink.

The brew days are pretty self-explanatory. Get together at someone's house. If you want to brew, bring your gear and brew. Otherwise, just bring some beer and come hang out.

Every month at our meetings we have inter club competitions based on BJCP guidelines for a specific style members get points and credit for brewing each style. We have an end of the year banquet where awards are given out for brewer of the year etc...

July 25-26 we are hosting the First Coast Cup which should have over 600 entries. http://www.thecask.org/fcc.htm

Snake River Brewers has monthly meetings at a microbrew or bottle room. We go over club stuff, treasury, upcoming local events and changes going on. An education director goes over subject of interest. Either brewing or style type with samples. Then we share home-brew and BS. We do the big brew and another group brew in Jan where the club supplies the grain. This year we have a camping trip in the hills. We usually have one at a hop farm a couple hours away. We have quartlery comps with 4-6 styles available to choose from with gc to local homebrew shops. We are in charge of organizing and judging the state fair beer comp. If there is a local beer fest a few usually make it. They have various barrel projects going on. A solara, barley wine, and soon an old ale.
