Default nOOb dumb kegging question #2.

I hear people refer to "chest freezers". You really want a chest "REFRIGERATOR", right, not a "FREEZER"?

Drinking:Smithwicks, Anchor Christmas, Budweiser

Primary:Northern Brewers Nut Brown, Northern Brewers British Bitter, Home Brewers Outlet Steam, Northern Brewers Honey Kolsch

No, chest freezer is correct. They require temp controllers though (extra cost). They only turn on when needed to maintain the temp. That way they will not freeze your beer, unless you want them to...

Green Lane Brewing

Primary = Evan!'s Special Bitter
On Deck = EdWort's Porter / American Amber

You over-ride the chest freezer's internal thermostat with an external thermostat (temp-controller).

This allows you to set the temperature in the 30's or 40's thus creating a refrigerator.

Many will argue that refridgerator thermostats aren't good enough either, at least not for lagering. Too wide a temp range before it'll cycle (to save energy).

Real beer isn't meant to be ice want it in the upper 30's to mid 40's...some styles even warmer than that.
I run my keg freezer at 42F

Drop the probe into your freezer...

Plug the freezer into the plug thingy...

Set the thermostat to desired temp...

Walk away. (After calibrating with a digital thermometer).
