Anyone know if the Lowes food grade, BPA free buckets are okay to use as fermmenters? most of what I've seen on this forum is people using them as sanitizing buckets or grain storage. thinking they should be fine for 4.5 gallon batches.

I've used them many times in the past. No problems at all.

what kinda of air lock system do you use? i'm concerned that a bubbler would get blown out/clogged up with kraussen. Maybe just do a 1/2" of 5/8" tube into water? that what i'm using now except i use 3/8" tubing.

I drilled a small hole into the top to accept a small airlock bung. Sometimes, I'll wrap the bung in a little sanitized Saran Wrap to ensure a decent seal. I'll either put an airlock in the bung or a blowoff tube to a small bucket with starsan in it.

I used a 1/2" drill and placed a grommet to accept a standard air lock. They do work but I don't use them anymore.
