I have never made a stout before. However I have drank plenty of them.
My LHBS had this recipe I was thinking of making to Pop my stout making cherry.
Any critique of the recipe.
I am looking for a simple, sweet Stout. I am not trying for over powering hops flavor, but sweet and malty.
Steep/Mash
12 oz Chocolate Malt,
8 oz Crystal 60,
8 oz Torrified Wheat,
4 oz Roasted Barley,
4 oz Black Malt
3.3# Amber LME,
3.3# Dark LME,
1# Lactose
1 oz Northern Brewer hop (60 min)
½ oz Kent Goldings (15 min )
½ oz Kent Goldings (5 min)
Ferments S-04 dry yeast
Should be 5.5% and around 20 ish IBU
My buddies wedding is the 2nd week of October and I would like to have a batch of this ready as the only beer he will drink is stout.
How long does stout take to bottle condition.
All my other batches have been IPA/cream ales and I usually go 3 in primary, 2 in bottle before I dig in.
How long do I give a stout for the flavors to come around?
Is stout a young drinker? Or do I need to age to get the best result?
Thanks for any info!
