I have a lager sitting at 52F in my ferm fridge right now. Fridge temp is set at 50F. Pitched yeast on Saturday (2 days ago). Don't see any activity yet. I didn't make a starter. OG is 1.050. Is this normal?

Finally got some activity this morning. Hopefully this is normal. I've never seem the krausen look quite like this, then again first time using this yeast. Thoughts?

So this now about 72 hrs after pitching, maybe a little less.

Sometimes lager yeasts just take a couple days, even if you pitch a big starter. In the dozens of lagers I've made, I found no rhyme or reason as to lag time. It probably has to do with yeast health and/or viable cell count, but like I said it can be hard to pinpoint exactly. That's one of the reasons I'm moving away from liquid to dry lager yeast.

So, I left it in there for about 12 days. SG is down to 1.020. Starting to raise the temp now for diacetyl rest. First time lagering.
