Open source label design app

Folk who use GIMP or Inkscape (or otherwise), which do you prefer? I had pretty good success making a label for my most recent oatmeal stout in Inkscape. But I've found most people on this forum, if they mention using an application that's not Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, use GIMP. And y'all turn out some pretty spiffy labels, if you don't mind me saying so. :rockin:

Now, GIMP seemed enticing... until I opened it up. I'm a newbie in this business of design.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Any reason (inductive or deductive) on your preference one way or the other?

Some people make labels in MS Paint. It all depends on what you want the end result to be and what you want time you want to invest into learning.
