So as the title states, I just got my hands on 4oz of EKG. There are so many recipes I have been wanting to brew, but couldnt because I couldnt find these hops anywhere. Now that I have this small amount, I want to make sure I choose 2 recipes that will really showcase what it is that makes people on this board so crazy about these hops.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

My last pale ale got some great reviews from friends...I used EKG in the following ways:
1 oz Chinook 60 min for the bittering

.5 oz EKG at 20 min left
.5 oz EKG at 10 min left
.5 oz EKG at 5 min left

1 oz EKG dry-hop for 2 weeks

It was pretty good stuff.

I love a simple ordinary bitter, use a bit of galena or some other high AA% for your bittering addition (no sense wasting the EKG on that) and flavour and aroma with the EKG.

Nothing quite so nice as a good session bitter!

I made a Scotch Ale using Northern Brewer for bittering and used EKG for the rest of the additions. Turned out delicious!!!

Scottish Ales are much more maltier and have lower IBU's, so you'd be able to make your EKG's last longer. Personally, I'd do a normal bitter and just enjoy the heck out of those EKG's.

Possibly people are enjoying them because they're in such low supply? They can be used in so many things and are very common hops. As said above use with northern brewer in a scotch ale. I use northern brewer bittering and ekg flavor in stouts. I use challenger and ekg in old ales. You can use this hop in any english style. The question is....what kind of beer do you want?

I'm with cowgo on this. Scottish ales are all about malt flavour. There should be little hop flavour or aroma. An english bitter is where I would showcase this hop. You have a range of substyles to choose from (ordinary, special, extra-special)

6.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 81.6 %
0.75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 10.2 %
0.50 lb Special Roast (50.0 SRM) Grain 6.8 %
0.10 lb Chocolate Malt (450.0 SRM) Grain 1.4 %
1.50 oz EKG [5.00%] (60 min) Hops 23.1 IBU
0.50 oz EKG [5.00%] (10 min) Hops 2.8 IBU
1 Pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04) Yeast-Ale
